In honour of our 10th anniversary, we are thrilled to complete our anniversary series with our tenth and last publication “The Regulation on Health Technology Assessment: a new building block towards a European Health Union”.
The new EU Regulation on Health Technology Assessment (HTA), adopted on 13 December 2021, is considered to be a crucial step towards a stronger European Health Union. It aims at promoting cooperation among EU Member States in the area of HTA by providing for joint work on different topics, such as joint clinical assessments, joint scientific consultations and joint horizon scanning. Being a key deliverable of the EU Pharmaceutical Strategy, this new piece of legislation should contribute to fostering patients’ access to affordable health technologies and optimizing the value of public spending on health.
In this article, we discuss the new elements of cooperation introduced by the HTA Regulation and how these relate to existing initiatives in the area of HTA.
